The 2008 vintage is a very good one for Napa reds, with wines showing excellent ripeness and balance. This wine is approachable now, will improve over the next 5 years and should hold for at least another 5 after that.
Grown in top vineyards across the Napa Valley, Starmont Cabernet lots were hand selected for their rich and robust flavors and fine tannins. We harvest the fruit in the early morning to preserve the fresh flavors and keep the skins intact. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were carefully sorted and de-stemmed, but not crushed, leaving over 90% whole berries. The berries and juice were cold soaked and fermented, and then aged for 16 months in 29% new French Oak.
The wine exhibits aromas of cassis, brambly blackberry jam, perfumed violets and baked pastry notes. The mouthfeel is rich and broad with fine tannins leading to a very long finish.
