Decant in its youth and enjoy over the next 10 years.
Sourced mostly from the cooler, southern part of the Napa Valley, the fruit was hand-picked and triple-sorted before undergoing an extended cold soak, with 3 weeks on the skins. After primary fermentation and native malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for 22 months in French oak (50% new) and minimally racked before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The 2010 harvest in the Napa Valley was an ultimately very rewarding vintage. The coolest summer since 1972 continued into the fall, resulting in some of the latest picking dates in memory. The extended hang time increased complexity in the grapes, which were picked at moderate to slightly lower sugar levels. The results were outstanding white wines with bright acidity and wonderful aromatics, and red wines with dense color, superior concentration, and balance, all at moderate alcohol levels.
Our 2010 Napa Valley Merlot displays a variety of fruit notes from the darker end of the spectrum: black cherry, plum, blackberry, as well as some smoky and spicy notes from the oak. The palate is rich and round, with good acidity to maintain the overall balance.
