The wines of Merryvale are inspired by the European sensibilities of René and Laurence Schlatter. Make no mistake; these are Napa Valley wines from hillside vineyards, meaning they’re powerful and concentrated. But the coolness of the sites in which they’re grown, and the work done in the winery to manage the tannins for approachability, creates wines with personality, texture, elegance and acidity. These wines are meant to age gracefully. For this reason, the Schlatters tend to hold their Cabernet Sauvignons longer prior to release, giving them time to develop as they rest in bottle. Again, it goes back to the culture of wine in which they were raised.

The template for what is now our Antigua Dessert Wine was initially crafted at Beaulieu Vineyards by iconic Napa Valley winemaker André Tchelistcheff in the 1960s. Antigua is produced using the solera process, a system of fractional blending over a number of vintages—in our case, over decades—and results in a complex dessert wine with aromas and flavors of orange peel and nut.
