vineyard

When the Schlatter family became sole proprietors of Merryvale in 1996, they acquired this historic hillside site and worked closely with viticulturist David Abreu to replant and redesign the property. This is a rocky vineyard perched in the steep hillsides east of St. Helena, high above the fog line. Straddling three distinct ridgelines, Profile comprises a mosaic of different elevations, exposures and soil types. While the ample sunlight and warm evenings manifest in greatly concentrated wines, the elevation and airflow serve to retain freshness and acidity.

“Profile is a complex site with incredible diversity even though it’s a single vineyard. This complexity gives us many different expressions and therefore great flexibility when it comes to blending. It’s a serious property with plenty of personality.”

– Jeff Crawford, Winemaker
